Pilot Training
Your path to the airline cockpit
Becoming a commercial pilot in India follows a clear sequence of DGCA licences and ratings. X Aviate International Aerospace guides you through each stage, from your first flight to the airline type rating.
1. Private Pilot Licence (PPL)
Your first licence: fly single-engine aircraft by day and night under visual flight rules, for personal flying.
2. CPL with IR and ME
The Commercial Pilot Licence with Instrument and Multi-Engine ratings: the qualification airlines hire from. Requires 200 hours of flight time.
3. ATPL ground classes
Clear the Airline Transport Pilot Licence theory ("frozen ATPL") so you are ready for command once you have the experience.
4. Type rating
Qualify on a specific airliner such as the A320, B737 or ATR 72 through ground school and simulator training.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a PPL before a CPL?
Not always. Many students train directly for the CPL. A PPL is a good first step if you want to start flying sooner or are not yet sure about a professional career.
What qualifications do I need to become a pilot?
Class 12 with Physics and Mathematics, a DGCA medical (Class 2 to start, Class 1 for the CPL) and good English. See each course page for full eligibility.
How long does it take to become an airline pilot?
CPL training usually takes about 10–12 months; adding ATPL theory, a type rating and airline selection, most pilots reach the airline in around two years.
